Starting Other Applications
You’ve already seen how you can start graphical applications by clicking an icon
on the Panel or by selecting an item from the main menu.
If you know about other applications that you want to start that aren’t part of
KDE (or aren’t included in the KDE main menu), you can start them by follow-
ing these steps:
1.
Press Alt+F2 to open a pop-up command window.
2.
Enter the name of the program you want to run.
3.
Press Enter
The application starts.
If the application doesn’t start when you follow the previous steps, or if you’re
not certain what the name of the application is, you may have to browse through
the file system to locate the application you want to start.
Chapter 6, Working with Files and Directories, describes how to use the file man-
agement windows in KDE to locate files you want to work with.
Once you have located an application in a file manager window, click on that
program’s icon to run it.
If you have trouble locating the file you want, you may need to open a command
line window and explore a little to find the application or other file you need.
Using the command line window is described as part of Chapter 9, Completing
Advanced Configuration.
To summarize, you can start an application using any of these methods (pre-
sented from easiest to most complicated)
1.
Click on a Panel icon for the application
